Want to know how choreographers think when creating a dance piece? What challenges do these artists have? How do you run a dance company? What is dance all about? A new event at Esplanade's da:ns festival; Coffee Chats is a rare opportunity to have an intimate conversation with a dance artist or practitioner.In this session, be in conversation with Han Kee-Juan on International Career Opportunities for Singapore Dancers to delve deeper into the topic of what's out there for performing artists from Singapore. Come prepared for an illuminating session at Coffee Chats.How does it work?In each session, up to three people get 20 minutes to ask questions and dialogue with artists and practitioners. Due to the limited slots available, please be at the venue 10 minutes before the event. In the situation that you are not present, we will give your slot to another on the waiting list.To be placed on the waiting list, please email us at dansfestival@esplanade.com.About the Conversationalist Han Kee-Juan directed the Arizona Ballet School from 1993 to 2003. Mr Han returns to Singapore to head Singapore Ballet Academy as its Principal after leading as Director of The Washington School of Ballet (2007 to 2016).Mr Han’s dance career began in his native Singapore, where he began his training at age ten with Florrie Sinclair and then with Goh Soo Khim. Upon graduation from the Australian Ballet School, he was invited to dance with the Sydney Dance Company, then the Goh Ballet in Canada, where he was also trained by Lin Yee Goh to teach the Vaganova method. Additionally, he was Principal Dancer with the Indianapolis Ballet Theatre and was a Soloist with the Boston Ballet. He danced most of the principal roles in the classical repertoire, as well as the ballets by Balanchine and modern works by Jose Limon, Mark Morris, Ralph Lemon, Susan Marshall and Bebe Miller.Mr Han has trained many prominent dancers, namely David Hallberg, Principal of Bolshoi Ballet and American Ballet Theater, and many others who are dancing professionally in United States and around the World. He has coached many prize winners in numerous international ballet competitions.
