Born and raised in Okinawa, which has been a target of both fascination and discrimination amongst Japan and surrounding Asian nations for years for its exotic culture and hybrid transformations. Her perceptions turn both the positive and negative aspects of her surroundings into an honest craft. After graduating from high school in Okinawa, she studied in the United States and earned BS in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. During her years of study in the States, she married and had a child. Her husband, however, was murdered in an incident right after her graduation. It was from this tragedy, she truly understood that life is too short. She then returned home with her daughter and established a Marketing/Production company, CIPHER CITY. The company produces contents that utilize the local resources to create economical exchanges - simple but often taken-for-granted concept. Awich presently stars in a weekly documentary and discussion TV show titled “098TV,” of which she was one of the founding member. She also produces an urban party event series “ALL WHITE PARTY,” a mobile street ball event “HOOP TIME,” and owns a modern Ryukyu cuisine restaurant “CAFE CIPHER.” She continues to produce and direct projects that she believes can become the vital parts of creating a modern Okinawan sense of identity.
