NDP Celebrates Bukit Brown in the City (9 Aug'16 @4-8pm)

The Chairman of NDP 2016 said, "Building our Singapore of Tomorrow … is about all of us, individually and collectively, being anchored on our values and love for Singapore and building on the contributions and sacrifices of our pioneers, to shape our Singapore of tomorrow." So come join us, the Brownies, in our celebration of National Day where we first remember the contributions and sacrifices of our pioneers, so that we can build the Singapore of Tomorrow.

This year we host our Bukit Brown NDP celebrations in the heart of the City, at Chong Wen Ge. Chong Wen Ge is a heritage building and housed one of Singapore's earliest schools.

Come dressed in the way our pioneers did: whether as towkay or coolie, baba or nyonya - what about a samsui woman or two? The best dressed persons stand to win a prize!

Join us for an afternoon of activity that draws from the past, to help us make a future grounded in the Singapore they helped to build.

1. Bukit Brown in the City walk (4.15pm – 6.00pm) – starting from Raffles Place MRT exit A.

We have the "Bukit Brown in the City" walk (back on popular demand!) where Alex Tan will take you through a City that has literally grown up all around you. The walk will start at 4.15pm from Raffles Place MRT Exit A (on top at street level). Follow Alex as he walks you through where many of the pioneers found in Bukit Brown walked, and made a living. Listen to him talk about who met whom, and where! And by the way you do have to be sprightly to catch-up with Alex - he does set a fast pace! The walk will end at Chong Wen Ge at 6.00pm to join the activities there. And the best dress up price includes the walk participants!

2. Peranakan Tile Painting / Chill out in the courtyard of Chong Wen Ge

For those who want a gentler pace in life - drop by Chong Wen Ge with your friends. Not only is it a heritage building, it houses an amazing gallery of Peranakan tiles. Come and try your hand at painting your own tiles, or just admiring the antique and replica tiles, or getting new ideas how these decorative tiles could be used at home!

Pledge / Anthem / Lucky Draw & Music!

Like all things Singapore, we do have our own lucky draw at 6.15 pm for registered participants! We will join together for the National Pledge and National Anthem at 6.45 pm and continue with music and song in the courtyard until late (bring your own music instruments if you like). There will be some light refreshments sponsored by Peranakan Tiles shop. Other food and drinks can be purchased from the café or you are free to go to any of the nearby eateries.

Building Singapore is more than just bricks and mortar, it is about people's memories, hopes and aspirations: come join us as we celebrate Singapore!
