Of Night and Dreams

Join us in our exploration of different faces of the night: the seductive, the deathly, and the spiritual. Encounter the rapturous young lovers who meet in darkness, and delve into the dreams of those who have loved and lost.

“Of Night and Dreams” is a debut song recital by soprano Rebecca Reavley and pianist Pamela Krakauer. Alongside art songs by Schumann, Strauss and Mozart, we will present Alban Berg’s cycle “Sieben Frühe Lieder".

Accompanying us with some insights on the texts and composers is musicologist Peter Krakauer.

Rebecca Reavley is a eurasian soprano from Singapore. She began her studies with Malaysian coloratura soprano Tan Sin Sim at the age of 17. She continued her education at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2017 under the tutelage of tenor Peter Wilson. In her time there, she was part of the chorus of RNCM’s productions of Massanet’s Cendrillon (2018) and Humperdink’s Hansel und Gretel (2018). She was also featured in the role Gasparina from Haydn’s La Canterina in RNCM’s Opera Scenes (2019). In RNCM, she formed a duo with Saxophonist Tasuku Noguchi, perfoming the song cycle I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Lori Laitman in the RNCM Concert Hall (2019). She was the soprano soloist in a performance of Handel’s Messiah as part of the Arran International Summer School (2020). In the summer of 2020, she completed her Bachelor’s of Music with RNCM, graduating with a First. She returned to Singapore in the midst of COVID-19 and hopes to be part of the vibrant musical community here.

Pamela Krakauer is a collaborative pianist and piano teacher from Singapore who runs the piano studio Musical Dialogues. She studied at the University Mozarteum Salzburg with Andreas Weber from 2009 to 2015 and graduated with a Master of Arts (Piano Pedagogy) with distinction. A former university student assistant at the Leopold Mozart Institute for Young Talents, she has a strong affinity for the art song repertoire and chamber music. She collaborated with singers at the Franco-American Vocal Academy in a 2013 production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, in rehearsals of Mozart’s Requiem, in Lange Nacht der Kirchen concerts, and in masterclasses and song recitals in Austria and Germany. In Singapore, she performed the piano reduction of Beethoven’s Fidelio at The Arts House (2020) and has performed with the violinist Helena Dawn Yah (2020). As a music educator, she has hosted pre-concert talks for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Pamela also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the National University of Singapore.

The Viennese musicologist Peter Krakauer is Professor of Musicology at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, and former Professor of Music Theory and History at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. With an illustrious teaching career spanning nearly 40 years, he has taught classes on European music history from antiquity to the 21st century, jazz and popular music, musical theatre, history of opera, film music, as well as ethnomusicology and music anthropology. The crux of his interdisciplinary approach to teaching lies in getting his students to reflect on music as a social and cultural phenomenon while thinking about its relevance to human existence. Peter Krakauer enjoys doing piano demonstrations during his lectures much to the delight of his students and has a natural flair for improvisation in all different musical styles. Since 2019, he has also made Singapore his second home.
