With a focus on the cultural, business and education landscape of the fashion industry in Singapore, we wish to find out if Singaporeans relate to an urgent need for change within the system. Do we care about the complex fashion supply chains that result in low wages, abuse of labour and immense pressure on our environment? Have we fully grasped what it means to be sustainable beyond band-aid solutions and paying lip service? Join our panellists on the 24th of April as we ask: Do Singaporeans care about sustainable fashion?Our speakers include: Nicole van der Elst Desai, Founder of VDE ConsultancyNicole is passionate about creating better products and processes in the fashion industry that leave a better planet for future generations. She uses her experience and skills with clients on issues that require practical solutions like the microfibre shedding of textiles, and by actively sharing her knowledge as a mentor and as an advisor. Textile innovation and technology in manufacturing is her sweet spot; where she adds expertise and value in reducing the impact of the fashion industry.Daniela Monasterios Tan, Lecturer at LASALLE College of the ArtsDaniela Monasterios Tan is a fashion lecturer, researcher and curator based in Singapore. She has been involved in various aspects of the fashion industry from design, production and research for over a decade. As an educator in the School of Fashion in Lasalle College of the Arts, Daniela is interested in both the theory and practice that is involved in approaching sustainability dialogues. Her published research and interests explore upcycling, mending, the aesthetics of use and wardrobe practices.Chu Wong, Country Coordinator of Fashion Revolution SingaporeHaving worked on business strategy and implementation in the corporate world, Chu now focuses on solving problems and increasing efficiency in projects related to the environment and social causes. Chu specialises in sustainable fashion, with experience spanning across multiple organisations in the industry, both non- and for-profit. She is the Country Coordinator of Fashion Revolution Singapore, and was the founder of Shop Bettr. Moderated by Xingyun ShenXingyun is a freelance researcher and writer who advocates for a more humane fashion system through her work. Seeking to address the importance of intersectionality when analysing fashion sustainability, she runs @noordinaryprotest as a platform to call for a shift in mindset.
