WS04: Reading Poetry Aloud (Tips and Tricks to Improve Your Performance ) By Verena Tay Synopsis:You want to read aloud poetry aloud, but you can’t be heard, you don’t make sense, or maybe you sound lifeless. If you want to bring a piece of text alive, help is at hand! In this short workshop, you will learn practical ways to increase your volume, clarity, expressiveness, and confidence when reading text aloud. By the end of the workshop, you will have an improved awareness of how to deliver a fair reading of your favourite poem. Workshop Outline: Basic vocal and speech warm-up Understanding and connecting to text Respecting rhythm and meter Developing body awareness and how the body contributes to reading aloud Q & A session About the Facilitator:Verena TayA veteran theatre practitioner and storyteller, Verena Tay (www.verenatay.com) has been teaching voice, speech and presentation skills for over ten years at the National Institute of Education and other local institutions.
