His ashes were only returned 11 years later and given a heroes burial). Peter will also reveal the story of an ambush by the resistance forces that lead to the death of a pioneer whose burial was touted by the Japanese Military Administration as Syonan-to’s first public funeral and for another survivor of that very same ambush, transformed his life tremendously as he went on after the war to play a pivotal role in the growth of Buddhism in Singapore.Finally, we will hear stories of collaboration by Chinese leaders who were forced under duress or collaborated as part of a survivor instinct or for personal gain; hear the stories of how they survived or died during this difficult period in Singapore’s history at Singapore’s heritage park, Bukit Brown.This tour is led by Peter Pak of All Things Bukit Brown. More details on the gathering point will be sent to participants upon registration.About the Guide and All Things Bukit BrownPeter Pak is a volunteer guide for All Things Bukit Brown and a blogger who writes under the moniker of Rojak Librarian (mymindisrojak.blogspot.com)All Things Bukit Brown is a group of volunteers who record the heritage, habitat and history of Bukit Brown and its surrounding area, and the history of Singapore since 1819.NOTE: Please ensure that you are appropriately attired (long pants and closed toed-shoes) for outdoor trekking as a fair amount of walking is involved. Mosquito repellent is highly recommended. Please bring an umbrella or poncho in case of wet weather. Please go to the toilet before coming. There are no facilities anywhere there or nearby. In view of the COVID-19 situation, participants must abide by all Safe Management Measures as advised by the organisers. If you are feeling unwell, please do not participate in the tour.
