Mini Tour: Former Ford Factory – Singapore Discovery CentreDate: 20, 28 February 2021Time: 9.30am – 12pm; 2pm – 4.30pmStop 1: Former Ford Factory15 February marks the anniversary of the surrender of the British to the Japanese in 1942. The boardroom of Ford Factory was where Britain’s Lieutenant-General A.E. Perceival met Lieutenant-General Yamashita and surrendered unconditionally to the Japanese, setting the stage for the Japanese Occupation of Singapore. The Former Ford Factory was subsequently restored by the National Archives of Singapore in 2006 and currently houses the permanent World War II exhibition, Surviving the Japanese Occupation: War and its Legacies.Join us for a special guided tour of Former Ford Factory in February to learn about the fall of Singapore and the Japanese Occupation. Discover wartime stories through archival records, published materials, oral history accounts. You will also get to see selected artefacts that are not on display in the gallery. Stop 2: Singapore Discovery CentreAt the Singapore Discovery Centre, participants will be brought on an immersive journey where they will learn about the Japanese Occupation and the Fall of Singapore in the newly revamped exhibition galleries. Using enhanced technology such as Augmented Reality (AR) and heartwarming stories of our people’s courage, their resistance and resilience, participants will be reminded of the importance of Singapore’s commitment to defence even during peace time. Participants will also be given an exclusive tour to SAF Training Institute (SAFTI) which offers a unique glimpse into the life of an officer cadet and the role of Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in the defence and security of Singapore.This tour is offered in partnership with the Former Ford Factory and Singapore Discovery Centre. Participants should download the "Former Ford Factory Mobile" app and the "mySDC" app on their mobile device before the programme for an immersive experience.Transport will be provided for all participants to and from the tour sites. More details on the gathering point will be sent to participants upon registration.NOTE: Any child participant of/under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. All participants must gather 30 mins before the tour at the designated meeting point and take the shuttle bus as part of the tour. Registered participants will be notified of the exact gathering time and location prior to the tour. In view of the COVID-19 situation, participants must abide to all Safe Management Measures as advised by the organisers. If you are feeling unwell, please do not participate in the tour.
