Utilizing the idiom of the classical Indian dance form Bharatanatyam, Dances of Divinity explores the divine dance of the Hindu pantheon of gods, worshiped and celebrated as dancing deities. Celebrating the dancing deity is, one of the novel features of this production. The iconic image of Shiva Nataraja in the form as the internal dancer enshrined in the temple of Thillai in Chidambaram, South India, and the worship of Krishna’s dance of the Raas with the Gopis of Brindavan are significant examples of this faith of the Hindus celebrating the dance of the divine.   This dance production explores the various aspects of the dances of each of the Hindu deities - Shiva and Krishna in detail and a glimpse of the dance of the deities in the Hindu pantheon; Vishnu, Lakshmi, Brahma, Saraswathi and Muruga. The choreography in the Indian classical dance style of Bharatanatyam expresses this thematic concept through compositions of great composers such as Oothukadu Venkata Kavi and Arunagiri Nathar, contemporary composers like Lalgudi G Jayaraman, and commissioned work specifically for this production by the legendary Rajkumar Bharathi, lyrics set in the eloquent Tamil language.
