What can a contractor do if the employer refuses to release the retention sum? In construction contracts, a retention sum is intended to ensure due performance by the contractor. However, disputes are common and some employers retain the retention sum without justification. Join us for this online talk in which our speakers will explain what retention sums are and how contractors can claim for the release of retention sums. ★SPEAKER
Christine Toh is a Partner of MahWengKwai & Associates. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London (External) in 2012 and completed her Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) in 2013. Christine qualified in 2017 as a Certified Adjudicator and is empanelled as an Adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) (Formerly known as Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA)). Christine is also a qualified accountant, having graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Business System from Monash University in 2004 and having completed her Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams in 2006. Christine’s primary areas of practice are construction adjudication, arbitration and litigation, taxation, and contractual disputes.
