The Colour of My Life - A Solo Exhibition by Koo Yean Ni

Findars is proud to present ‘The Colour of My Life’, a solo exhibition by Malaysia’s upcoming artist Koo Yean Ni.

‘The Colour of My Life’ embraces life, history and the cultural aspects of being a Malaysian. The harmonious configuration of forms and the rhythmic movements of colours are inspired by the Nusantara folk art, blending in the shared cultural facet of the country’s three main races.

Exhibition starts from 18 June – 3 July 2016, 11am - 7pm daily, close on Mondays.

Opening reception is on 18 June, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Artist statement:

Through the subconscious, imaginative and observant tendencies, my work delves into the historical and cultural aspects of Malaysia. Inspired by the innocence and naivety of children's creativity, the significant events through the use of lines and forms generate a personal narrative of the perception.

My works embrace the life, history and cultural aspects of Malaysia. They investigate the historical development of the country, at the same time adopting a unique, contrasting method to record the preserved culture, values through the colours of the native soil. The configuration of forms as often inspired by the folk art of its three main races is the core structure of my work.

Years of experience in teaching children art allowed me to learn the pure, spontaneous and unconstrained process of how children immerse in their way of painting. The combination of subject matter and painting process are revealed in my canvases.Education
