Adrian's first venture into publishing was to launch KLue in 2000; an online lifestyle portal to provide the latest events in and around the Klang Valley.Under Freeform, Adrian has also produced several publications and online portals, including Junk Magazine and Tongue-in-Chic. In 2010, Adrian ventured into the Food and Beverage business with The Bee in Jaya One, and in 2011, he expanded it to Publika, Solaris Dutamas. Adrian’s intention with The Bee was not only to create a restaurant, but also a “community-centric” space in which local musicians and comedians often perform. Bernice Chauly (KL Writers Workshop and George Town Literary Festival) Bernice is a Malaysian writer, poet and educator. Born in George Town, Penang of Chinese-Punjabi descent, she read Education and English Literature in Canada. For over 20 years, she worked as a multi-disciplinary, award-winning artist in photography, theatre, film and television, and is known as one of the most significant voices of her generation. In 2005, she founded Readings, Malaysia’s longest-running live literary platform, now in its tenth year, and is the Festival Director of the George Town Literary Festival in Penang. She is the author of five books of poetry and prose; going there and coming back(1997), The Book of Sins (2008), Lost in KL (2008), the acclaimed literary memoir Growing Up With Ghosts (2011) which won in the Reader’s Choice Awards 2012 in the Non-Fiction Category, and her third collection of poems, Onkalo (2013). She has performed in literary festivals worldwide and has had residencies in Amsterdam, Iowa City and Alaska. She has taught Creative Writing in colleges and universities for 12 years and is an Honorary Fellow in Writing from the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (IWP) 2014. She is the founder and director of the KL Writers Workshop.Moderator: Hakim Albasrawy (Makespace and Aquamob)Hakim is the co-founder of Makespace.my an event space that exists to host events and promote the maker culture. The space is also a physical co creation space in the heart of KL, it serves as a hub to surface new creators and provide services to people looking to develop cool new things.He also co-founded and runs Aquamob.com, a startup focused on delivering business intelligence service for aquaculture farmers in Asia. Aquamob helps farmers - on the whole spectrum, from small "one-to-two man" farms to Fortune 500 operations with thousands of employees - grow more efficiently.Hailing from a background in advertising and communication, he has started multiple businesses in technology development, training for youth, as well as social enterprise and social impact.
