Rather than working towards a final product, such as realizing an artwork, Lab participants are encouraged to broaden their perspective through lectures, discussions, and the exchanging of their practices and approaches, while also taking on individual research projects. Over the two-month camp (late August – late October), the participants are accompanied by three Lab facilitators. His work has been presented at Palais de Tokyo and Centre National de la Danse (Paris); KANAL – Centre Pompidou (Brussels); M+ (Hong Kong); Rockbund Art Museum and Ming Contemporary Art Museum (Shanghai); Taipei Biennial 2016; and Liveworks Festival of Experimental Art (Sydney), among other venues. River heads the Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance (ADAM), which he initiated with Taipei Performing Arts Center in 2017 to foster cross-cultural and interdisciplinary artistic exchange. In 2019, he co-curated the inaugural edition of Camping Asia in collaboration with Centre National de la Danse.Daisuke Muto (Japan)(Photo by Satoshi Nishizawa)Daisuke Muto (b. 1975) is a dance critic and choreographer as well as Associate Professor at the Gunma Prefectural Women’s University. His research focuses on dance theory as well as modern and contemporary Asian dance history. Muto has contributed to publications such as Barē to Dansu no Rekishi (The History of ballet and dance, Heibonsha, 2012) and Choreography and Corporeality (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). He has also published papers, one of his most recent being “Denishawn’s Far East Tour and Their Contact with the Vernacular Dance Cultures” (Choreologia, no. 43, 2020), and presented choreographic works, such as Surely It Comes About (which premiered in 2013). Muto was a co-curator of the Indonesian Dance Festival from 2007 through 2012, and has served as the Asian Geinoh Director of the Sanriku International Arts Festival from 2016, as well as Director of the After-school Diversity Dance project from 2018.----
