Re-Writing stories. The pandemic has thrown a spotlight on our notion of space, how we define it, and the tensions that come with defining it. It has forced us into a ‘new normal’, where we simply have to embrace the rules and restrictions placed upon us to protect ourselves and each other to ensure our collective health and safety. We navigate through these new challenges in our choreography and tell stories of you and me — Us, as we tread the familiar and the unfamiliar. Encapsulating the idea of different chapters within a human’s sense of belonging, Re:Writing explores two disparate chapters: Home & Chaos. About Goh Jia Yin (Singapore) Goh Jia Yin’s passion for movement began at a young age; she trained in artistic gymnastics and stepped into her first Chinese Dance class at the age of 12. When we pay attention, we realise that everything that arises will inevitably pass away. So I question: where is the start and where is the end to an occurrence? Is it important, or does the momentum of an existence flow regardless? If we experience carefully the transition of a moment, we begin to notice the very nature of its occurrence. The more we notice and reflect, the more beautiful reality can be for us. About Nah Jieying (Singapore)  Born in 1995 in Singapore, Nah Jieying started training as an artistic gymnast and a Chinese dancer. She moved on to Contemporary Dance and Ballet training for 6 years in School of the Arts, Singapore. Graduating with an International Baccalaureate Diploma, she became a dancer with T.H.E Second Company from 2011 to 2015. She is a recipient of the National Arts Council Scholarship (Undergraduate) 2016 for overseas study at London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS). At LCDS, she was awarded the Peggy Hawkins Scholarship in recognition for her work, and graduated in 2018 with first class honours for a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance. She joined T.H.E Dance Company in January 2019. _____________________________________________________________________Synopsis of “Kawayan” (Tagalog term for ‘Bamboo’ in English) by Klievert Mendoza The world is progressing at an unprecedented rate, getting more advanced every day as we humans adapt to those changes. Unfortunately, along the path of creating greatness and the pursuit of happiness, crisis and disaster follow and challenge us along the way. It may come in many forms, but all humans are definitely challenged in one way or another. As mentioned above, we are challenged in many ways. and I aim to show our resiliency and/or struggles of getting through it. A more fluid and flowing movement style, I am referencing the Bamboo and how even the strongest of winds are unable to break it. And I should now very well, as I have seen and experience natural calamities that destroy homes, but still, a bamboo at the end of the day will stand strong. About Klievert Mendoza (Philippines/Singapore) A graduate of the Philippines High School for the Arts where he received the Outstanding Student Artist Award in 2015, Mendoza joined the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts’ (NAFA) on the NAFA and MOE Discovery Scholarship. Graduating in 2018 with a Diploma in Dance (Distinction), he was also named ‘Best Graduate’ and received the ‘NAFA President Award’. He was the first Filipino to compete in the Youth America Grand Prix 2018, the world's largest international student dance competition. At age 17, he was awarded the Gold Medal in the pre-professional category of the 2014 Concours International De Danse Classique De Grasse in Paris, France. He was part of NAFA’s dance performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 8th ASEAN Para Games in Singapore. Mendoza joined T.H.E Dance Company in 2018.
