The URA Architectural Heritage Awards (AHA) was launched in 1995 to honour owners, developers, architects, engineers and contractors who have displayed the highest standards in conserving and restoring heritage buildings in Singapore. The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation were established in 2000 to recognize and encourage private efforts and public-private initiatives in successfully restoring structures of heritage value in the region.In partnership with URA, selected awardees would be conducting guided tours during the festival for public to understand the architecture and history of the buildings, and the restoration effort behind these buildings.9 Neil Road (URA Pilot Restoration Project)Between 1987 and 1988, 32 dilapidated shophouses of a hybrid Hokkien-Teochew style were restored by URA. This was the first ever project undertaken by the government to demonstrate to the private sector that it was technically possible and commercially viable to restore Singapore’s heritage buildings to their former glory. The first unit to be restored was 9 Neil Road and converted into a teahouse which hosted Queen Elizabeth II on her State visit in 1989.8 May 2016 10am, 12pm, 2pm
