Introduction to NodeJS

Node is one of the fastest growing platforms for building scalable web applications. This workshop will cover how to get started with Node, its background and history, and what are the problems that NodeJS is designed to address. Of course, will will cover the main features of node: asynchronous i/o, and event loop, and demonstrate a few examples of using NodeJS to write fast, lightweight, and highly scalable apps.

In this LEAD workshop, Dr. Lau will demonstrate how to quickly setup a MVC website using NodeJS, and create endpoints API using REST architecture. Therefore, you are strongly encouraged to email us your problems or any issues while learning NodeJS to us beforehand, and Dr. Lau will try to address them during the workshop

We will cover the following key topics:
  • Find out the pros and cons of using Node, the reason behind Node creation, and what problems it was designed to solve.
  • How to build a website using NodeJS.
  • Node ecosystem and the role of Node in the MEAN stack.
