The example we're tasting comes from the Vallformosa winery, and features grapes sourced from its oldest vineyards scattered through the Cava region. Then hop over to the Northwest corner of the country, where we find the region of Rias Baixas in Galicia. Exposed to the Atlantic ocean, Galicia, or Green Spain as it is often referred to, is pretty much cooler and wetter than the rest of the country, and is therefore associated with high-acidity white wines made primarily from a local grape known as Albarino that is unique to Spain and Portugal.Vallformosa Cava Origen Brut Nature NVBodegas Pazo de Villarei Albarino 2014The next leg of our voyage takes us on a treacherous journey upstream into the mountains of Mendigorria and Aibar. Here, in the region of Navarra in Northern Spain and some 600m above sea level, the La Casa de Luculo winery takes pride in making 'ecological' wines from 100 year old Garnacha Atlantica vines. 100% natural, hand-harvested, fermented by natural yeast, and with no sulphites added, their wines indeed capture the real essence of the raw material, with utmost respect for the produce of the landJardin de Luculo Los Bohemios Rosado 2015Jardin de Luculo Los Bohemios Tinto 2014Finally, what Spanish wine tasting can be complete without a taste of Rioja! Hands down the most famous wine region of Spain, Rioja is known for its earthy, leathery, mineral-rich and highly-tannic red wines based primarily on the the Tempranillo grape. The delightful example we are tasting comes from the slopes of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subregions along the Ebro river, which enjoy a milder climate than the hot and dry Rioja Baja downstream. Marques de Caceres Rioja Crianza 2010The third largest producer of wine in the world, after France and Italy, Spain is indeed a country that every wine lover would do well to get acquainted with! MORE UPCOMING VOYAGES1 September - Australia15 September - New Zealand Updates tag:peatix.com,2016-08-14 06:30:26 2016-08-14 06:30:26 The event description was updated.
