We plan to present various fields of work in cooperation with COS KYOTO, organizer of Design Week Kyoto.In the fifth episode we present Masuya Takao, a weaving mill producing brocades called “Nishijin“. Since its foundation in 1960, Masuya Takao persues the preservation and consolidation of traditional Nishijin weaving procedures. New products are simultaneously developed by utilizing unique techniques. On behalf of the Tokugawa-Museum, special historically utilized gold threads called “Nenkinshi” have been faithfully reproduced and advanced. Textiles with inwrought Nenkinshi, e.g. valuable silk cloths (fukusa) used during the tea ceremony, are highly popular both in Japan and abroad. In addition, on show will be what is likely to be the only loom holding the capacity to produce textiles with a width of up to 150cm.About Masuya TakaoThere are the following two possibilities for participation:1.
