A famous Tchimpounga resident who was released is Wounda, the chimp Dr. Atencia and her team nursed back to health and who gave Dr. Jane Goodall a heartwarming farewell hug before she set off for the forests. Dr. Atencia has received accolades for her work throughout her professional career, including the City Hall Gold Medal presented by the city of Ferrol in Spain in 2010 in recognition of her great ape conservation work. In 2018, Dr. Atencia was nominated for the “Women of the Future” award, where 20 women, including Dr. Jane Goodall, were asked to nominate a promising and pioneering person for the generation.Don’t miss this opportunity to hear another inspiring tale from Africa.
