Earth Day 2016 will take place on Friday, 22 April. This goal of this Earth Day will be to seek action not just for a single day, but commitment to ongoing change. We want to capture what is being done, the change that is taking place in our world and allow these actions to inspire more action. Earth Day Star Party will encourage the public to switch off their house lights and join us for a night under the stars at East Coast Park. The night activities will allow them to experience the wonders of the night sky and learn about climate change and environmental issue through our updated posters display. Through this activity, we hope to convey 2 messages – conserving energy and to gain more public awareness about the light pollution problem in Singapore, by encouraging people to switch off their lights when not in use which would contribute greatly in the long term goals of countering climate change and preserving the splendid view of our starry night sky.WHAT IS EARTH DAY?Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.Itinerary & Venue: 3pm - 6pm: *Recycling event @ Marine Parade Community Building Level 1 6.30pm: Bus transport to ECP departure**7.30pm: Stargazing @ East Coast Park Castle Beach (Area E near the food centre) Cost: FREE *recycling event will be held at MPCC for collection of drink cans and plastic water bottles. **availability of seats on the bus is on a first come first serve basis.There would be telescope viewing and poster exhibition on that day! FREE Ice Cream will be served on a first come first served basis. Limited quantities available! Overnight is possible but it would be on your own.
