Open Conversations: Curriculum Future – Trends in Curriculum Design Thinking

Open Conversations: Curriculum Future – Trends in Curriculum Design Thinking

Alan Boldon will present a range of ways to develop of adapt curricula to ensure that courses are resource efficient, relevant, adaptive to developments in contemporary practices and discourse and that support staff research and enquiry.

Models considered will include:

Low-residency; blended learning; CPD short course portfolios with credit- bearing modules; repurposed or ‘hacked’ existing curricula for collaborative ‘lab’ delivery; mobile programmes; live studios embedded in UG and PG courses; company structures that support spin-out operations that can deliver course elements.

Boldon will also examine how to repurpose existing curricula to: allow students to commit to UG and PG study whilst maintaining professional practice/lives outside of study; maximise resources including facilities that may not be used all year by UG courses; allow staff to integrate research into course delivery; concentrate teaching time/contact hours so that staff are able to focus on research and professional practice.
