To speak about gender relations and unpack direct lived experiences, this performance-lecture led by Priyaageetha Dia sets from the perspective of the feminine gaze.Looking beyond the prescribed set of ideas that have surrounded traditional and heteronormative masculinity in perpetuum, and to celebrate the beauty of masculinities in all its expansive glory, Masc Malli takes on the narrative of reclaiming and reimagining brown masculinities within the Tamil community ina broader, contemporary geographical discourse.About Septfest 2020 Fringe Septfest 2020 Fringe presents nine immersive and sensorial workshop experiences that lead participants through a participatory process of intervention. These workshops hope to generate conversations and knowledge building around issues faced by various marginalised and displaced groups. As various scenarios unfold through movement, spoken word and digital projections, you are invited to take on multiple roles (the thinker, the protagonist, the instigator). As the boundaries between past and present; imagination and reality; public and private; desire and needs blurs, what centres and informs your decision? How does your personal story influence your choice?Learn more: substation.org/septfest2020/fringeAbout SeptfestSeptfest 2020 returns after a 5-year hiatus! Septfest is The Substation’s long-standing celebration of art, culture and community, held annually since 1990 to mark The Substation’s anniversary (16 September). Themed differently each year, Septfest features multi and interdisciplinary programmes such as exhibitions, performances, films from Singapore and the region to highlight the diversity and experimentation spirit of The Substation. Marking the 30th anniversary of Singapore's first independent Home for the Arts and keeping true to The Substation’s spirit of experimentation and celebration of the alternative, Septfest 2020 presents stories of and from the fringe. Taking on the theme In The Margins, the festival takes a closer look at the stories of the marginalised, displaced, and forgotten communities. In its more abstract interpretation, the festival also features works that highlight the fragility and ephemeralness of spaces, physically or mentally, or even the relationships we have with ourselves or the encounters with strangers we meet. The festival kicks off with a fringe festival in September, followed by the main festival in March 2021.
