The poet creates art with the building blocks of traditions or legacies in order to imagine a new world. In doing so, a poet can inspire transformative actions.Centered around the theme 'Legacies and Creation', Poetry Festival Singapore 2020 commemorates the variety of multilingual Singapore poetry through reinventions in a time of change. Poetry Festival Singapore (e-Poetry Festival Singapore) 2020 is supported by National Arts Council's Presentation and Participation Grant.Tune in to our events and stay updated via our Facebook page!Click here for our e-programme booklet! How can you support us?Poetry Festival Singapore is in the midst of applying for Charity status. St Thomas Aquinas hints that our encounter with nature is accompanied by a kind of noble wonder (thaumazein), leading to consciousness raising. Martin Heidegger, late in his career, made this his core matter for thought. The early Greeks, Heidegger argued, were awed by nature (physis, also named Being), which comported them contemplatively, cradling the beginning of philosophy. Poetic works inspired by the Greek experience, therefore, leave a trace of that Greek experience of wondrous Being-nature-physis, which Heidegger believes has often been forgotten. Such poetry, when encountered, would also function as a kind of evolutionary “scaffolding.” This talk critically appropriates these Heideggerian themes to appreciate the scaffolding significance of poetic work inspired by nature. The talk will be conducted by Dr Jude Chua and moderated by Ng Chiew Hong."MOTHER: An Asian Women's Poetry Reading"29 August 2020│Saturday1:30PM - 2:30PMEnglishLive-streaming (Watch the programme on our Facebook page!)FreePoetry Festival Singapore brings to you “Asian Women’s Poetry Reading" by members of the Indian Women’s Association Singapore, and the social change organization ‘Sanrakshan Pte Ltd’.
