A colloquial Malay term, 'Pe'el' means 'habit' or 'behaviour', and Kide's paintings revolve around the everyday lives of Malaysians and their habits during the 1950s and 1960s. With its bold, bright colours and vivid descriptions of everyday bustles in traditional villages and post-colonial era towns, Kide evokes beautiful scenes of Malaysia from a bygone era. The scenes in Pe'el are both big and lively, such as the revelry of a traditional Malay wedding, or quiet and seemingly innocuous depictions of getting a haircut, courtship or doing laundry by the well.Prakash Daniel’s foray into comedy started when he became a regular in the audience at Malaysia’s first open mic comedy show ‘One Mic Stand’. One day in 2012, he decided to jump on stage and the rest, as they say, is history. He has also performed at the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2018. He hosted the festival produced show called, “Comedy Zone Asia” featuring comics from India, Malaysia and Japan. In 2019, he also performed his first solo ONE Hour show "Beautiful" at PJ Live Arts and he is looking for new and bigger things in 2020In this event in tandem with Pe'el's exhibition at the brand new Tun Perak Co-op, we present you a virtual tour of the gallery. Join our guest curator Prakash Daniel in rediscovering the early days of Malaysia through his interpretation of Kide Baharudin's rich and colourful paintings
