These are political terms, with meanings beyond the simple meaning of the words. If we are to understand how public communication of science and technology can serve society, we need to understand the politics of institutional and social relationships involved in public communication. Professor Lewenstein will consider the four models developed to better understand science communication. Using examples such as CRISPR and the recent water crisis in Flint, Michigan, he will discuss the models and their political implications.
