Katsumi Sakaguchi, director of over 200 documentaries and three acclaimed feature films, will share insights about the challenges and rewards of documentary making.Katsumi Sakaguchi is one of Japan’s most talented filmmakers, effortlessly traversing fiction and fact with numerous documentaries and three acclaimed feature films under his belt. His works have covered topics ranging from the plight of aged victims of the atomic bomb in Nagasaki, to troubled youths in Japan, making him a tremendously insightful commentator on modern Japanese society. His films have travelled to international film festivals such as the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, and Vienna International Film Festival. His latest feature-length documentary, 'Walking With My Mother', premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival, and will be screened as part of the Stories That Matter line up of films.Drawing on his extensive body of work, Sakagachi will speak about the craft and ethics of creating documentaries, including how to define a topic and how to create powerful messages that will impact an audience.This seminar precedes the screening of 'Walking With My Mother', where there will be a post-screening discussion with the director.
