The Sino-Singapore Tianjin
Eco-City is a landmark bilateral project between the governments of China and
Singapore. Located in the Tianjin Binhai New Area (45 km away from Tianjin City
Centre), the 30-sq km Eco-City is envisioned to create a harmonious and
sustainable community that meets the needs of an urbanizing China and will be a
modern, green township where 350,000 residents can work, live, learn and play.
The Eco-City has been named by China’s State Council as the first National
Green Development Demonstration Zone, and serves as a test-bed for new models
of green development in China. To date, more than 2000 companies have
established in the Eco-City to take advantage of this high profile platform.
This briefing shall provide the latest on
Eco-City’s development, with focus on the assistance and support schemes
offered to Singapore-based companies. It will also delve into specific examples
on how companies are able to leverage on Eco-City’s platforms in seeking
business and investment opportunities, particularly in the areas of Cleantech,
ICT, Biomedical Sciences and Healthcare.
About
the Speaker:
Mr. Kok Poh June was appointed the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SSTEC on 1
April 2014, where he oversees the Physical Planning and Development Division.
Before joining SSTEC, Mr. Kok was a Director at JTC Corporation ― Singapore’s
leading industrial infrastructure developer. He was responsible for the
planning and development of specialized facilities for the Biomedical Sciences,
Cleantech, Media, Infocomms, and Electronics clusters. Mr. Kok’s real estate
experience includes planning, development, marketing, and lease and facilities
management. He was also instrumental to the master development of the One-North
project — Singapore’s icon of the new economy, which combines work, live, play
and learn elements. Mr. Kok began his career as an architectural associate at
both Alfred Wong Architects and RDC Associates in Singapore, before joining JTC
in 2000. He hopes to bring his experience to the planning and development of
the Tianjin Eco-City and contribute to the creation of vibrant communities and
urban spaces.
Mr. Kok graduated with a Master of Architecture
from the National University of Singapore and Master of Business Administration
from the University of Nottingham.
