Following a presentation about her projects 'Look on me and be renewed' (2019) and 'Changing Places' (2017), she will discuss Toilet Lit. (2020) by Vertical Submarine with Justin Loke. Toilet Lit. was a commissioned work for The Substation's exhibition, Stealing Public Space, curated by Iola Lenzi. This event will be hosted on Zoom. Details of the zoom link will be shared with registered guests on the morning of the event day itself. ——————————— Mariam ZulfiqarAn independent curator, Mariam Zulfigar's curatorial and research interests are diverse and include cultural policy, interdisciplinary collaboration, moving image, art in the public domain, discourses around public spaces and the history of ideas. Mariam has worked with various arts and cultural organisations and commissioning bodies including Film and Video Umbrella, 1418 Now, UP Projects and Art on the Underground. Mariam has guest lectured at international and UK-based educational institutions including Goldsmiths, the Royal College of Art, McGill University and National College of Art, Pakistan. Before returning to undertake her Masters, Mariam collaborated with the diplomatic sector on a variety of cultural exhibitions and events across the UK. In 2013, Mariam was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Scholarship fund and invited to Barbados to undertake a two-month curatorial research placement. Mariam received a BA in Public Art & Design from Chelsea College of Art and an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art. ———————————Justin Loke Justin Loke is the founding member of vertical submarine (VS). In 2007, he was selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, as the Singaporean representative to the Global Youth Exchange: Youth Visual Culture in Tokyo and Kyoto. Together with the art collective, he received the Credit Suisse Art Residency Award, the grand prize of President’s Young Talents 2009 organised by Singapore Art Museum, and Celeste Prize 2011 (New York). Justin Loke is also the recipient of Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation Arts Award 2009. From 2010-13, he was one of the Associate Directors of TheatreWorks (Singapore), and part of the Associate Artist Research Programme at The Substation. In 2017, VS was engaged as art director by ZARCH Collaboratives for SGIO-Sydney organised by Singapore Tourism Board. In the same year, Loke was the curator for NAC Public Art Trust (PAT) project Larger than Life. VS participated in Thailand Biennale: The Edge of Wonderland (Krabi/ 2018).
