In conjunction with DECK's Print Room showcase 'Speak Softly. Speak Low.' by Liana Yang, there will be a panel session discussing the state of modern romance. Does the Internet affect how we love and sustain in romantic bonds? Or is it caused by evolving societal attitudes? How do we try to come to terms with paradoxical notions such as 'nothing lasts forever 'and 'there are many fish out in the sea', to 'the perfect one' and 'soulmate'?Come explore these tropes of modern romance and more with visual artist, Liana Yang in her panel discussion. Spanning over 10 years, Liana's works have combined photography, video, sound and found objects to explore social and sociological interactions, as well as the enigmatic unseen aspects of relationships. She is drawn to the trivialities and oddities that we encounter in our daily experiences, such as the enigmatic and unseen aspects of relationships, as well as explorations of memory and associations in our contemporary culture. Her methodologies usually involve subversions with sexual references and objectification, a process she hopes will offer a compelling discourse in understanding societal views.
