In this exclusive workshop, you will engage in discussions with the artists, get a chance to recreate your recollections of faraway places through ideograms, and also create hand-drawn postcards using pens and ink wash.Suitable for all ages.This workshop is part of the Light to Night Festival 2020 - Invisible Cities x Civic District at the Asian Civilisations Museum.About the artistVertical Submarine (VS) is a Singapore art collective. Their cross-disciplinary projects incorporate theatre and curating, and explore methods of storytelling and narrative via words and images. The group has received accolades including The President's Young Talents Award (Singapore, 2009), The Celeste Prize (New York, 2011), and Finalist for Sovereign Asian Art Prize (Hong Kong, 2015). VS has been appointed Associate Director of TheatreWorks (Singapore, 2010–13), and was part of the Associate Artist Research Programme at The Substation (Singapore, 2011–13). In addition to international art fairs and commercial shows, they have participated in projects such as Kuandu Biennale (2010), Roundtable: Gwangju Biennale (2012), and The Roving Eye: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia Asia, ARTER (Istanbul, 2014), and Concept Context Contestation: Art and the Collective in Southeast Asia (Travelling Version) Jogjakarta organised by Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (2016). To date, their widely acclaimed art installations, which include The Garden of Forking Paths/Mirror Room (2010) and John Martin: Butcher or Surgeon (2015), have travelled to Barcelona, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Mexico City, and Taipei. In 2017, Vertical Submarine was engaged as art director by ZARCH Collaboratives for SGIO-Sydney organised by Singapore Tourism Board. Why do we have to put down a refundable deposit of $10/pax?As the workshop spaces are highly limited, this is to ensure that the instructor and facilitators' times are fully utilized.
