The meetup will comprise the following two segments:Segment 1: Parental/Primary carer interactions with and expectations of autistic loved ones: Our autistic loved ones, due to their atypical characteristics, need our empathy to provide them with the guidance that they need to make it in our mainstream society. This often requires us to look within ourselves and examine our own mindset. Have we shown ourselves to be the kind of role models that our autistic loved ones can look to for guidance and leadership? Do our autistic loved ones feel loved unconditionally? For this segment, I have asked my husband, Jerome Poudevigne, to share his perspective as a primary carer-by-choice of Sebastien, my autistic son — how he stayed through the tumult of five difficult years and remained committed to the family, as well as our newfound understanding of Sebastien since moving him to Bali. Segment 2: Overview of goals, needs, networks and collaborations for ASD families:Celeste, one of the mums who have attended our first meeting, has put together her perspective of the big picture of: a) ASD families’ goals and needs, b) the creation of a parents’ network to pursue specific projects, and c) collaboration with third-party professionals.Apart from having parents brainstorm ideas based on her slide, I hope that professionals and members of the public interested in working with our community, based on their different areas of expertise, would come to this meeting and network with us. Thank you very much!
