SME Table Talk: Can I volunteer to wind up my company? Why & How?

The winding up of a company is the process of bringing an end to a company. The company’s assets are sold off and then used to pay off the company’s debts. Any excess proceeds are then returned to the shareholders of the company.

Winding up of a company could be due to many reasons, be it due to creditors’ claim over unpaid debts by the company, a judicial order for winding up or the shareholders’ decision to wind up the company. Regardless the reason, being forced to wind up a company is never a comfortable position to be in. Question then is, can one voluntarily wind up his/her own company?

Join this SME Table Talk where Thomas Philip’s senior partner - Lavinia Kumaraendran, shares about the “Why” and “How” of voluntary winding up alongside the legal conundrums that comes along with it.
