Stand-up Comedy Workshop - Level 1
Start your journey as a stand-up comedian with these 4 sessions in one day PLUS a graduation performance event AND 2 complimentary tickets (worth $56) to attend Ollie Horn - Pig in Japan at the beautiful Vagabond Club that evening, to see a professional comedian in action.
Strictly limited capacity. These 4 x 1-hour sessions will take you through the initial steps of becoming a stand-up comedian and culminate with you writing a 3-minute comedy routine.
The course is aimed at first-timers but is also useful for novices and anyone who wants to improve their public speaking and stage presence.
Hour 1 - 10.00am - 11.00am
1. Intro to character, structure and style
2. Outline your first funny story/joke
Hour 2 - 11.00am - 12 noon
1. Learn how to use the stage – stagecraft and microphone technique
2. Develop your story/joke
3. Overlay with the skills you have learned so far
Hour 3 - 1.00pm - 2.00pm
1. Stage persona/character development
2. Review of skills and how to use them effectively
3. Q&A with a guest professional comedian
4. Warm-up, breathing and voice techniques
Hour 4 - 2.00pm - 3.00pm
1. Final edits of your 3-minute routine
Graduation Performance (at a later date)
A show for you and your graduating alumni to perform for family, friends, colleagues and the public.
PLUS a free handy ‘comedy jargon’ busting glossary to take away AND free entry to one of the Mad About Comedy shows to see how other comedians use the skills you have learned.
Who is the facilitator?
Scott Mitchell has performed in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Myanmar and the United Kingdom. Recently, as part of Fringeworld, Perth Australia, he was a finalist in the ‘Best Show’ category. He has also provided support on stage for Russel Howard, Stuart Goldsmith, Brendon Burns and many more.
Scott was born and raised in Scotland and moved to Singapore in 2004. To date, Scott has organised more than 500 stand-up shows in Singapore and has been involved with the Magners International Comedy Festival, Comedy Central Asia and Beerfest Asia as well as many corporate and private performances.
