Laws for the Malay Reserved Land (Tanah Rizab Melayu) was first introduced on 1st January 1914, when the Malay Reserve Enactment 1913 (Enakmen Rizab Melayu 1913) came into force in the Federated Malay States (Negeri-Negeri Melayu Bersekutu), namely the states of Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.
