A critical issue in simulation and prediction of large-scale real-world systems is how to set the initial state, which is only sparsely and noisily observable. Data assimilation combines a tentative prediction by a stochastic dynamic model with whatever available multi-sensory observations to better estimate the present and past states and the parameters of the system, and utilize them for better future predictions. Here I postulate that data assimilation provides the best analogy for our consciousness, including intrinsic dynamics, multi-sensory integration, prediction, postdiction, and learning.Data assimilation model of the consciousness may further allow us to answer TInbergen’s four questions: not only “How does it work?” (mechanism) and "How does it develop?" (ontogeny), but also "What is it for?" (function) and "How did it evolve?" (phylogeny).I will introduce recent efforts to delineate the cognitive and neuronal mechanisms of mental simulation and discuss how they can contribute to better understanding of consciousness, or render the neuroscience of consciousness like the biology of soul.Language: EnglishPlease makre sure that you register your FULL NAME.We need to submit a list of participants. The talk will be broadcasted through the link below.URL: https://youtu.be/cXIOquk0PbQWe are going to have a speaker every two weeks but could fluctuate. Please check out the schedule from our website. We do not limit a topic of CC to consciousness studies but focus on cross-disciplinary studies potentially related to consciousness such as machine learning, neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, etc.We are pretty much welcoming people with full of curiosity. We plan to broadcast the lecture online. Please stay tunedPete LinforthによるPixabayからの画像Updatestag:peatix.com,2019-11-25 11:39:172019-11-25 11:39:17The event description was updated.
