Her 1957 book, Characters of Light, is considered a classic on Singapore. The exhibition is based on a new photo book, Marjorie Doggett’s Singapore by the exhibition curator, Edward Stokes. From 1954–57, camera in hand, Doggett explored Singapore. She recorded its cityscapes and buildings with striking images and detailed texts. Many of the exhibition and book photos have not been seen before. Doggett saw the risks that progress, despite its benefits, posed for Singapore’s historic buildings, and her work later contributed to a growing awareness of heritage conservation.
