CONVERSATIONS In today's world of choose-your-own-adventure narratives, interactive films, video games, and participatory performances, we are constantly being invited to play with texts. Instead of fixed texts and linear narratives, we encounter incomplete worlds and iterative replays. How might we engage with the playful possibilities of storytelling? What affinities might emerge when we interact with texts as games? FEATURINGAlex Mitchell (Canada/UK - Singapore) Alex Mitchell teaches interactive media design at the National University of Singapore. As part of his research work, he developed and released the HypeDyn hypertext fiction authoring tool: tinyurl.com/hypedyn. Alex’s interactive stories include the collaborative hypertext Monstrous Weather: tinyurl.com/mweatherd, and artworks Surrender and Re-collection. His short fiction has been published in Dark Tales, Balik Kampung 2A, and several issues of the 24 Flavoursseries from Math Paper Press.Charlene Shepherdson (Singapore) Charlene Shepherdson is a poet and community organiser focused on language in written, performative, and visual forms. She is interested in heritage, technology and creative education. Her words have been published in From Walden to Woodlands, UnFree Verse (Ethos Books), A Luxury We Cannot Afford, SingPoWriMo 2014: The Anthology (Math Paper Press), and The Straits Times. Her visual poetry has been displayed in The Arts House, The Substation, and in Singapore libraries under the National Art Council’s Project LAVA.Shao Han & Alanna Yeo | Curious Chimera (Singapore) Hi, we're the Curious Chimeras! We believe that games have the power to be creative tools to spur and focus the imaginations of players. As players interact with each other, we create stories together, and discover more about each other and ourselves.
