The Handshake Concert is an annual musical and cultural festival that was born out of the North East India Music Festival, and organized under the patronage of North East Zone Culture Centre, Government of India in collaboration with Rolling Stone India. Says chief editor of Rolling Stone India Radhakrishnan Nair, “It was a real pleasure for us at Rolling Stone to work with the Rattle & Hum Music Society to put together the recent Handshake Concert in Mumbai, I was really impressed by the quality of organizing that the RHMS team did. That was one of the main reasons why the concert was such a huge success. Everyone who came for the concert was all praise for the quality of music and the fine selection of artists who played that evening.”
Through this event we conduct concerts and cultural shows with the theme of spreading universal friendship and understanding “one handshake at a time”.
The event includes musical performances, cultural dances and songs, etc by artists and cultural ambassadors from the northeast and the rest of the country. It creates a better appreciation of our country and our culture to audiences within and outside the country.
The Handshake Concert has different editions namely the international edition, the Raj Bhavan Edition, the India Edition, etc.
The event has been successfully held in China, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Korea, Vietnam and in the cities of Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Kohima. The Raj Bhavan Editions have been held for 4 years. The concert creates an opportunity for our youth, artists and cultural ambassadors to showcase their talents, interact with their counterparts and also bring international performances to select audiences.
Grammy Award recipient and world-renowned classical musician Padma Bhushan Pandit Viswa Mohan Bhatt is the Brand Ambassador of the Handshake Concert.
