Not only were they able to get the chance to perform at the Dance World Cup2019 (DWC) in Braga, Portugal, some of them were even able to come back to Malaysia with gold medals! Beating out so many other performances from all over the world, the children of the school were able to come out on top for 2 categories, ‘Solo Children National Folklore’ category and ‘Children Duet/Trio National and Folklore Dance’. Riding of the success of their performance in an international stage, the school will be bringing the prize winning performances to Kuala Lumpur.Sekolah Kebangsaan Stella Maris will bring with them 12 performances to the stage at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). Among the performances that will be in the line-up is an extended version of the prize winning Nambuyunan dance. The performance that was done at DWC was a shortened adaptation of the full 6 minutes performance of the Nambuyunan. “We will be performing the full 6 minutes to really tell the story of Nambuyunan, to show that that is the full story”, said Suryati, a teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Stella Maris. The audience at DBKL will be able to get the full experience of the gold medal dance performance together with a full length faithful telling of the Nabuyunan story as well as many other dance performances from the school.
