It was immediately a huge success in Russia, Europe, then worldwide. Set in the early 20th Century, Gorky's play depicts the harsh lives of gamblers, prostitutes, petty thieves and drunk layabouts towards the end of Czarist Russia, but this production definitely takes place today, presenting characters who might be any of us.What would you do when you have nothing and you are nothing ? Would you dream ? Hope ? Work ?Act ? Cook ? Sleep ? Read ? Play ? Sing ? Would you care for the words you speak ? Would you keep your name ? Would you tell the harsh truth ? Would you prefer comforting lies ?Maxim Gorky's masterpiece is directed by Marc Goldberg and performed by NAFA's BA(Hons) Theatre Arts students.
