In 1990, he founded Lighting Planners Associates Inc. The scope of his design and planning activities ranges widely from residential and architectural lighting design to urban and environmental lighting. Mende is also the acting chief of the “Lighting Detectives”, a citizens’ group that specializes in the study of the culture of lighting.Mende has been involved in such superb projects as Tokyo International Forum, JR Kyoto Station, Singapore City Center Lighting Master Plan, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Aman New Delhi and Façade lighting for Tokyo station.Books Mende has authored include “Transnational Lighting Detectives” (Kajima Publishing), “LIGHTING DESIGN for Urban Environments and Architecture” (Rikuyosha), “Designing with Shadow”(Rikuyosha), “The Light Seminar” (Kajima Publishing), “LPA 1990-2015” (Rikuyosha), and many other.MICHAEL LEEMichael Lee is an artist, curator and publisher based in Berlin and Singapore. He researches urban memory and fiction, especially the contexts and implications of loss. He transforms his observations into objects, diagrams, situations, curations or texts.DR. LAI CHEE KIENLai Chee Kien is Adjunct Associate Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (Architecture and Sustainable Design pillar). He graduated from the National University of Singapore with an M Arch. by research [1996], and then a PhD in History of Architecture & Urban Design from the University of California, Berkeley [2005]. His publications include A Brief History of Malayan Art (1999), Building Merdeka: Independence Architecture in Kuala Lumpur, 1957-1966 (2007), Cords to Histories (2013) and Through the Lens of Lee Kip Lin (2015). He researches on histories of art, architecture, settlements, urbanism and landscapes in Southeast Asia, and is also a registered architect in Singapore.
