Throughout the course of the voyage, their 11 companies sailed, lived and learned from 20 of the world's most prominent innovators and entrepreneurs, including Megan Smith (VP of Business Development, Google), Matt Mullenweg (Founder of Wordpress), and Archibishop Desmond TuTu. The program was called Unreasonable at Sea and this radical experiment in global entrepreneurship, design-thinking, and education called Tokyo as it's first international port of call. Thus, Unreasonable Tokyo was born. Two years later, the Unreasonable Institute has scoured the globe for ten locations for the inaugural Unreasonable Labs programs. Out of over 100 teams who applied, the Unreasonable Institute chose to work with the community in Japan not just because of the incredible startup ecosystems across the country, but most notably because the Unreasonable Institute is interested in exploring the potential for long term engagement between Unreasonable and Japan. Ten Tokyo based entrepreneurs have been selected to participate in a 5 day workshop where they will validate (or invalidate) their business model ideas focused on the world's greatest social and environmental challenges. Unreasonable Japan Lab Night will highlight their efforts as well as provide a peek into our international mentor community and programming.Being Unreasonable (why we're doing this). In a world where communication technologies are nearly ubiquitous, where innovations in healthcare have doubled life-expectancy in just a century, and where dictatorships are being toppled by bottom-up revolutions propelled by social networks, it is hard not to be an optimist. That said, at Unreasonable, although we are optimistic about these trends, we consider ourselves “impatient optimists”. We are guided by a belief that although technology is rapidly solving some of the greatest challenges of our time, it’s not doing so fast enough and its benefits have yet to reach the most marginalized amongst us. It’s our optimistic belief that entrepreneurs leveraging technology will help solve these grand challenges and it is our impatience that leads to a belief we cannot help them do so fast enough.■Event details Date/time:October 24th, 2015. 18:00 - 20:30 Location:Digital Garage (5min. walk from Daikanyama station) Access:http://www.garage.co.jp/ja/access/ Who: Open to the public.
