In response to the performance
of the same name, TRANSDUCER presents a two-part workshop for audiences to gain
insight into the composers’ creative processes and the novel technological
components of the works.
Part 1:
Fluorophone
With a custom designed
programme, Fluorophone creates a kaleidoscopic sound world in which
central instruments radiate, flicker, glow and burn. In this workshop,
participants tease out the creative and curatorial point of departure in a
conversation with the artists about the process of commissioning, collaborating
and presenting Fluorophone. Participants will also gain an understanding of
the creative processes of each of the prominent composers and the modernity of
each work.
Part 2:
TRANSDUCER
This half of the
lecture-demonstration will provide a closer look at the new instruments
designed for TRANSDUCER through a demonstration of the physicality of the instruments.
In addition, there will be a broad ranging discussion on the historical context
of electro-acoustic and percussion music. Participants will also learn about
challenges faced when approaching the composition of new mixed media musical
works, while the artists shed light on their creative rationale.
