私たち、TEDxSakurajimaが主催する、今回の「TEDxSakurajimaChange」は5月5日に開催される、「TEDxSakurajima
2013」に先駆けて、TEDxChangeとのコラボレーションにより、世界規模で計画されているサテライトイベントの一つとして開催します。
TEDxSakurajimaChangeでは、4月3日にアメリカのシアトル市で開催されるTEDxChange 2013のイベントの模様をオンデマンド中継にて放映し、参加者みなさんと、鹿児島に求められる変革と私たちにできることをディスカッションするイベントを開催します。

『TEDxChange 2013』
TEDxChangeとは、マイクロソフト創業者のビルゲイツ夫妻が主宰するThe Bill & Melinda Gates FoundationとTEDxプログラムとのパートナーシップにより開催されるイベントで、特に貧困国における伝染病対策、母子健康、農業開発などに焦点を当てています。その模様をオンデマンド中継により、世界１００カ国以上の地域でサテライトイベントが計画されています。
今回のテーマである「Disruption（混乱）」は対立や混沌、潜在的な危機を表すものとして普段は歓迎されないものですが、一方でこれまで当然とされていた前提に疑問を投
げかけ、対話をスタートさせ、社会を動かし、新たな可能性を示してくれる触媒としてポジティブにとらえることも可能です。

In the run up to TEDxSakurajima, on the 5th of May, 2013, we are proud to announce that we will be participating in a worldwide series of events which collaborate to bring TEDxChange to the world. TEDxSakurajimaChange will be a public viewing of the TEDxChange event which is being held on April 3rd. After the viewing there will be a chance to have a discussion with the other participants. TEDxChange is an event held in Seattle by TED and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is an initiative devoted to ideas worth spreading in the areas of global health and development. The TEDxChange team works with TEDx organizers around the world to help facilitate meaningful discussions on topics including vaccines, polio, malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn child health and agricultural development. The TEDxChange initiative also includes a global signature event convened by Melinda Gates and broadcast across the TEDx community. This year’s theme is “Positive Disruption,” and the event is intended to shake things up in order to create a better future. Along with Bill Gates, she shapes and approves the foundation’s strategies, reviews results, and sets the overall direction of the organization. Melinda will host TEDxChange from the Gates Foundation campus in Seattle, Washington. □Cathleen Kaveny: Religion, tradition, and modernity Cathleen Kaveny is an American legal scholar and theologian. She is a John P. Murphy Foundation Professor of Law and Theology at Notre Dame Law School, and is currently a visiting professor at Princeton University. □Halimatou Hima: Investing in girls Halimatou Hima is a Masters in Public Policy candidate at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Following an internship in the Women & Population Division at the United Nations Foundation, she worked in the Child Protection Division at the United Nations in her home country of Niger (UNICEF). □Roger Thurow: Shifts in agriculture Roger Thurow joined the Chicago Council in January 2010 after three decades at the Wall Street Journal. For 20 years, he was a foreign correspondent based in Europe and Africa. □Julie Dixon: Social change Julie Dixon is the Deputy Director of Georgetown University's Center for Social Impact Communication (CSIC), an academic initiative that examines the critical role of communication in fostering engagement in social change. □David Fasanya: Youth poet David Fasanya is a Nigerian-American performance artist and award-winning youth poet residing in Brooklyn, NY. □Salim Shekh and Sikha Patra: Vaccine advocates We will show a trailer from the feature film Revolutionary Optimists, about how children are saving lives in the slums of Calcutta. We will then invite Salim and Sikha, two of the children featured prominently in the film, to join onstage for Q&A.
