Academy of Cantonese Opera has initiated a cultural exchange programme
called "Cantonese Opera Showcase" with Chinese Theatre Circle Limited
(CTC) by sending a 70 member troupe to Singapore to present three
evenings of Cantonese Opera at the Drama Centre (National Library
Building level 3) on 2 - 4 October 2015 at 7.30 pm. The programme consists of two full-length operas, namely "The Legend of Goddess of Mercy" on 2 October about the household story of the good deeds performed by the Goddess of Mercy on earth, and "The Nan Hai Adventurer" on 3 October
narrating the famous episode of the trading vessel NanHai plying the
maritime silk route during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) , as well as
"Cantonese Opera Extravaganza" on 4 October
showcasing exciting opera excerpts such as "The Magnificient Ape",
"Woman Warrior Mu Gui Ying", "The Arrogant Princess", "Ode To The Peony
Flower", and "A Timely Rescue By Liu Jin Ding" and featuring rising
stars in Cantonese Opera in China. The troupe comprises three renowned
winners of the "Plum Blossom Award", the highest accolade for Chinese
theatre practitioners in China, namely, Din Fan, Jiang Wen Duan, and
Liang Shu Qing, an invigorating orchestra, and a group of energetic
upcoming young artists. Regarded as the best troupe in the Guangdong
Province, the quintessence of this troupe is the unique style of singing
of the lead artists as well as the stunning martial art skills of the
