Observing that so much of contemporary art these days often embraces a relatively narrow spectrum of possible human emotion (usually by addressing its darker or heavier aspects), JMDC decided to embrace a lighter attitude in this concert and acknowledge the equally deep and important positive emotions of joy, ecstasy, love, benevolence and rapture. In comparison to the darker side of human nature, JMDC feels that the positive emotions are an equally serious subject matter for artists to tackle - and it is in this vein that we have approached the choreography - by attempting to abstract the deeper sensibilities of the positive emotions rather than by looking at them in a superficial way. Walking on Air promises to be a heart-felt respite from the pressures of our busy Singapore lives. We hope the audience will leave the theatre filled with the positive sensibilities that the choreography is meant to convey.
