Building applications using scripting languages has been a crucial part in his career, in particular for automating tasks and improving web communications. He is also known for building a natural Habitat Monitoring System while his tenure at Microsoft Research Centre, which the system can be used for the detecting the presence of Birds and Koalas. During his time inAustralian Institute of Future Environment, he made IoT and big data to meet, for the purpose of an automatic Green House Gas Analysis System, which is able to collect, analyze and publish data automatically.In 2004, equipped with skills in writing macros and VBScripts, Dr. Lau represented the country and emerged as the World Champion for Microsoft Excel, which he used to solve challenging application problems. Dr. Lau is noted as a generalist, where he applies JavaScripts to chalk out innovative solutions and win hackathons with applications on event management, micro-donations and sports video analysis.Dr. Lau latest projects include building scalable machines to monitor fanpage likes and comments using NodeJS and Python, he is also working on a hybrid mobile app to detect nation happiness indicator with scientists from Bhutan.
