SYNOPSIS


Mapping Minds

Choreographer: Ms Lo Pui Sze

Performers: ODT Young Co.

Pui Sze is the Associate Artistic Director at ODT, and holds a Master of Fine Arts (Dance) from Queensland University of Technology (Australia). A long standing member of Odyssey Dance Theatre since 2001, she has accumulated her wealth of dance experiences with leading roles in more than 25 repertoires by Dr Danny Tan. She had represented Singapore for ODT’s performances at numerous festivals such as the ASEAN Festival of Arts 2003 in Malaysia and Asian Dance Choreographers Festival 2004 in South Korea.



天女散花 Excerpt from Chinese Opera Choreographer/Performer: Wanghui

Wang Hui graduated from Anhui Huangmei Opera Artistic Vocational College in 2010 and worked in Beijing as an opera performer thereafter. In 2012, Wang Hui graduated from the Anqing Teacher’s College Music Department and the Communication University of China’s Phoenix College’s Radio Communications course concurrently. In the same year, Wang Hui joined the Chinese Opera Institute (COI) and became an opera instructor in Singapore.

Shahrin Johry is an avid dancer and talented choreographer. Shahrin is one of the founding members of Maya Dance Theatre and he is the principal dancer and assistant choreographer of the company. He graduated from Lasalle SIA in 2013 with a BA Dance.

Choreographer: Mr Antonio Vargas

Antonio Vargas is recognized as one of the world’s leading Flamenco dancers and choreographers. Ingenious, innovative and a perfectionist, he performs and teaches internationally, with works for theatre, cinema and television. He is known as a guardian of an esoteric art form that, despite its massive recent popularity, remains elusive to most of those who flock to see it.

Performers: Lim Mei Chian, Lip Jia Yi

Choreographer: Mr Jon Mead

John Mead is an internationally recognized choreographer, performer and educator. Working professionally over the past 30 years, he has choreographed over 120 works, which have been performed in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States. After being awarded the prestigious 1st place press prize at the “Lausanne New Choreographers Competition” hosted by Bejart Ballet Lausanne, Switzerland in 1988, Mr. Mead worked periodically for four years as a visiting faculty member at the official school of the Bejart Ballet: Rudra Bejart Lausanne. From 1993 to 2000 Mr. Mead was the Artistic Director of John Mead & Dancers in New York City, and was an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the New York University Program in Dance Education. Mr. Mead is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of two Singapore-based companies: Firefly Tales which is an organization dedicated to dance education outreach and narrative film production, and the John Mead Dance Company which produces original, professional dance.

ODT Young Company – a pioneer in Singapore’s talent development for young dancers who exhibit excellent capabilities towards their performance and technical abilities. Since inception in 2002, these professionally-trained young dancers have performed on various local and international stages graced by dignitaries and ambassadorial guests to critical acclaim. Outstanding dancers are given further opportunities to perform and tour with ODT Main Company. ODT Young Company performs regularly in Singapore Contemporary Dance Festivals – Xposition ‘O’ Contemporary Dance Fiesta and DanzINC – International Dancers & Choreographers’ Residency Festival, and is being commissioned by both governmental and grassroots organizations, and corporations regularly.



Flamenco Sin Fronteras is a community of flamenco lovers who believes that dance is more than just an art form but a platform for individuals to express themselves freely and achieve artistic excellence. FSF is dedicated in bringing individuals from different nationalities together in our melting pot of dance, music and friendship.


John Mead Dance Company celebrates ten years of success in the fine arts in 2015! Recognized for its outstanding concert dance performances since its incorporation in 2005 by Co-Founders John Mead and Ms. Lim Mei Chian, JMDC has produced innovative dance productions at the Drama Centre Theatre, the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay and at various venues throughout Singapore.


Maya Dance Theatre is a young dance company with performances to mark her presence in both local and International arenas like Taiwan, Indonesia, India, China and Australia. Maya Dance Theatre is dedicated to collaborations, openness and experimentations. Our dance vocabulary draws inspiration from Asian traditions and aesthetics. Transcending cultural identities and boundaries, Maya’s Works are presented through Asian dynamism. Maya Dance Theatre has a unique presence of the Singapore dance scenes because of its pursuits of trans-cultural dance as an independent arts form.


The Chinese Opera Institute was established in June 1995 and holds talks and courses throughout the year to encourage opera practitioners to expose themselves to different genres and techniques in Chinese opera, as well as to familiarise and educate the public on Chinese opera.
