About:

ITE Headquarters and ITE College Central @ Ang Mo Kio
by RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd

(2 Ang Mo Kio Drive, Singapore 567720)

This award winning project explores a new kind of environment that leverages on the integrated design of the physical space to encourage and support communities and networks of learning, inspiring greater creativity, innovation and discourse. Its overall form of an interweaving ribbon reflects lifelong learning where there is no defined start and stop points. Anchored by a main Inspirational Street along a central green spine, clear circulation paths enable more than 10,000 students to move around easily across four schools and three activity hubs. Its sustainable architecture blending passive design with extensive use of lush greenery, landscaping, themed gardens, water features and energy efficient materials help promote a green-conscious culture. It boasts one of the largest green walls in the world for a single development.

Lattice Office
by FDAT Architects LLP

(16B Trengganu Street, Singapore 058470)

The first home for FDAT Architects inhabits a single shophouse floor in Singapore’s historic and diverse Chinatown. With a compact footprint the objective was to create an architectural interior that was smart, functional and impactful. The lattice shelf is inspired by the kelong, traditional South East Asian timber structures built over the sea for catching fish. These structures were abstracted into a series of rhythmic vertical timber rods and horizontal planks; recombined to create an expressive lattice which displays our book collection and objects from our various travels. The lattice flanks the studio, an open space conducive for discussions and collaborative design. With clever lighting the bright workspace transforms into a warm and inviting space for entertaining and creative events. The existing full height French windows are tweaked with the addition of the wind-windows, a small portal that can be easily opened for fresh air.

The National Design Centre
by SCDA Architects Pte Ltd

(111 Middle Road, Singapore 188969)

The proposal for the National Design Centre is a showcase of innovation and encouragement in the possibilities of design. Conceptually, the design is a composition of four translucent boxes, cantilevering and overlapping to form an interconnected series of volumes for both public and private uses.
The design respects the existing building with an insertion that serves to enhance the existing spaces within. The adaptive elements in the central courtyard add to the internal volume and institute a new dimension to a previously enclosed space. To promote open courtyard interaction, the platonic boxes operate as a new dominant feature within the central space, and provide a plenitude of areas for displays and exhibitions. These boxes are detached from the external façade, creating a three-storey interstitial volume that filters light down to the gallery. In addition, the new spatial volumes create a strong visual juxtaposition with the external conserved façade.
