A new component of Silver Arts, Silver Films presents a curated selection of local short films that explore and engage with seniors. Two commissioned, brand new Singapore films will be making their debut, alongside three films by local filmmakers.



The Secret Passion of Mdm Tan Ah Lian by Sun Koh

Mdm Tan is 61 and still not retired. Her husband Teck wants her to retire but Mdm Tan has been living a secret life for over a year. As her secret gets aired in public, Mdm Tan needs to decide whether to let Teck in on it. Will he be able to accept the woman that she has become and the woman that she aspires to be?

Bio of Sun Koh

Independent filmmaker Sun has received many accolades for her short films and omnibus film projects, including The Secret Heaven, Dirty Bitch, Lucky7 and Letters from the South. She received the National Arts Council’s Young Artist Award in 2010.



I Am A Beautiful Beached Whale By The Straits by Ng Xi Jie

This experimental documentary looks intimately at the everyday lives of two elderly women. Through their stream of reflections and conversations, blended with meditative images of an elderly lady at a beach, we learn about their experiences of being female and growing old.

Bio of Ng Xi Jie

Xi Jie works with film, performance, installation and writing. Apart from her experimental documentary Post-Love, her other works include performance-installations for the Singapore Arts Festival and Singapore Night Festival.



Popiah by Royston Tan

A film that pays homage to the quiet love of our own families. As we unravel the story of a son's estrangement from his father, Popiah reveals itself to be equally a lyrical, yet authentic record of the joys, heartaches and frustrations of ordinary family life.

An award-winning television and film director, Sanif’s works have been showcased at festivals, arts institutions and museums both locally and worldwide. His debut feature film, Sayang Disayang, was released in late 2013.

Bio of Kat Goh

A television production veteran, Kat was also Assistant Director for Kelvin Tong’s blockbuster hits such as The Maid, Rule #1 and It’s a Great Great World. She made her directorial feature debut with Dance Dance Dragon in 2012.
